Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley (BGCAZ) offers affordable after-school and summer programs for 16,000+ young people in grades K-12. Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley’s members engage in daily physical activity, make healthy nutrition choices, and refrain from participating in risky behavior.
Recently at the Chandler Compadres Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley, they were able to introduce Exergaming as a Healthy Lifestyle option for their kids. Interactive gaming and the Lu Interactive Projection System can be a great tool for increasing kids’ fitness at the Boys and Girls Clubs.
The Lu Interactive Projection System is an advanced technology that projects interactive games and academic activities onto the wall in any large gymnasium or multipurpose space. Along with the other Exergaming components here are some ideas on the usage of all the equipment options.
How It Can Increase Kids’ Fitness:
- Interactive Exercise Games:
-
- Engaging Workouts: The Exergaming products can project games that involve running, jumping, and other physical activities. For example, kids might play games where they have to throw balls at obstacles projected on the wall. This encourages them to be more active while having fun.
- Variety and Challenge: The system offers a range of games with varying levels of difficulty. Kids can progress as they get better, which keeps them motivated and continuously challenged.
-
- Encourages Group Activities:
- Social Interaction: Many of the games are designed for multiple players, promoting teamwork and friendly competition. This can be particularly engaging in a group setting like the Boys and Girls Clubs, where kids can enjoy physical activities together.
- Building Team Skills: Group activities can also help kids develop social skills, communication, and teamwork while staying active.
- Customizable Fitness Routines:
- Tailored Activities: The system can be programmed to focus on different types of exercises, such as cardio, balance, or coordination. This allows for customization based on the fitness needs and preferences of the kids.
- Track Progress: Some systems offer features to track progress over time, which can be motivating for kids as they see their improvements and set new goals.
- Fun and Motivating:
- Gamification: By turning exercise into a game, the system makes physical activity more enjoyable. Kids are more likely to participate in and stick with a fitness routine when it feels like play rather than a chore.
- Immediate Feedback: The interactive nature provides immediate feedback, which can be rewarding and encouraging. For instance, scoring points or achieving high scores can boost kids’ enthusiasm and confidence.
