The new year will be here before you know it and already people are indulging in retrospect and reevaluating many of their life choices. New Year’s resolutions are the ideal opportunities for all of those who have failed making the changes this last year. Because, you know, next year will be different, it will be the year we actually keep those promises made to ourselves.
Now is the chance to sit down and construct a list of all the lifestyle choices you want to make. Your list probably goes something like this:
- Quit smoking.
- Lose weight
- Exercise more
- Eat healthy foods
But because the majority of people fail to stick to their resolutions, they are destined to failure unless they get some help. So here are several common New Year’s resolutions followed by a little advice on how to see your way through to the end. If you are searching for effective ways to change your life for the better, this is a good start.
Lose Weight/ Get in Shape
Losing weight and getting into shape represents the top New Year’s resolution as a whopping 70 percent of people who make such lists will have this the top. It’s something we all want to achieve and easy enough to start exercising and eating healthy, but the trick is to stick it our longer than a week or a month.
One way to increase the odds you will work out on a regular basis is to join a gym that offers active gaming. Working out is so much more enjoyable if you are playing games to keep fit. This is not smoke and mirrors, it is a fact that if you enjoy an activity, you will do it more. Look into it.
Eat Healthy
This resolution is basically an extension of the first resolution and does go hand-in-hand with losing weight. It is incredibly difficult to stick to a healthy diet when you are completely bombarded by junk food wherever you go. One cannot enjoy steamed broccoli and cauliflower while watching a commercial detailing the subtle nuances of Dairy Queen’s Hot Fudge Brownie Delight.
However, by learning to control emotional eating, being aware of why diets fail and looking up tasty and healthy recipes, you can overcome.
Meet New People
You are stuck in a rut; besides a few close friends, you only interact with a few work colleagues, but just barely. You are missing out on meeting a lot of nice and interesting people. Meeting new people can be beneficial to your mental health, so don’t be afraid to go out there and make some new friends.
We don’t like using cliches, but this is a good opportunity to kill two birds with one stone. That is, join a gym to get the exercise you want (see resolution #1) and while at the gym, compete in interactive fitness games and you will meet like-minded people. Over time, some of these people will wind up becoming close friends.
Make More Money
Even wealthy people are looking for ways to make more money. There are several options to reach this goal, but they all include working harder. Find a part-time job you can work in the evenings or on weekends. But better still, work as a freelancer or find something on the internet that you can do at home in your spare time.
Take More Chances
If you are a confident person, show it. There is nothing wrong with having your opinions heard at work or asking somebody out on a date. A good dose of self-confidence will go a long way in life.
Good luck and we hope you find success in this next year’s resolutions.
