The Mayor’s Office of Special Events presents Chicago Sports Fest, so save the date, it’s FREE!!! This event takes place December 18 & 19, 2010 at McCormick Place in Halls A & B (2301 S. Martin Luther King Drive) What began as a basketball-only tournament named Holiday Hoops in 2000 became Mayor Daley’s Holiday Sports Festival. Envisioned by Mayor Daley, the end result now encompasses both tournaments and interactive zones. Combined, the event attracts approximately 85,000 people annually over a period of three days. The event like its predecessor Holiday Hoops takes place at McCormick Place and is produced by the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, other partners include the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Park District.
Come checkout this healthy event, which will showcase Fitness Areas, Interactive Zones for Kids, and Healthy Demonstrations.
Visit the expanded Fitness Area presented by the Mayor’s Fitness Council. Certified fitness instructors will lead classes in cardio kickboxing, salsa aerobics, pilates, yoga and more! There are fitness demos, lectures on nutrition, bike safety, and family fitness. Essential health screenings will also be available, including body fat composition measurements. Personal trainers can guide you through a personalized fitness regime.
Interactive zones include air hockey, boxing, golf, climbing walls, football, chess, obstacle course, tot’s zone, bowling, martial arts, table tennis, inflatable tumbling, tennis, badminton, fishing ponds, footbag, giant slide, 50-Yard dash, skateboarding/blading area, wrestling, cheerleading clinics, and open courts for volleyball and basketball. Chicago Public Schools will again host an all-ages chess tournament and there will be instructors on site for beginners.
