Exercise isn’t just good for your butt.

A University of Calgary researcher is trying to understand why it’s also good for your brain.

The study shows that people who are physically active also maintain sharp thinking and memory skills.

Georgie Leach’s sister had Alzheimer’s disease and died from it less than a year ago.

That was all the motivation she needed to sign herself up for the study, along with two of her friends.

The three 74-year-old women are participating in a new research project investigating the changes in the brain that happen when someone exercises and why exercise helps maintain cognitive abilities.

Researchers are looking for volunteers between 55 and 75 to participate in the study. For more information call or email Natalie St-Denis at (403)210-7315 or nstdenis@ucalgary.ca.
