On Saturday, November 2nd 2013, the brand new Eastlake YMCA located in Chula Vista, CA launched a very successful grand opening of its state of the art, multi-purpose, family friendly fitness epicenter. But there was something that made this grand opening party even more intriguing to the members, media and guests that were eager to get a peek inside. Yes, the Eastlake YMCA (like many other YMCA’s across the country) partnered with Exergame Fitness to redefine a small space originally reserved for kids into an interactive exergaming room that focuses on fun, fitness and social responsibility.
Like many Y’s, they are on a mission and they really wanted to reach those 5 to 11 year olds with something that they could relate to and connect with while their parents worked out at their facility. Through their extensive research process, they came to realize that interactive fitness technology and exergaming has been proven to motivate, stimulate and engage more kids to exercise and love it.
“The satisfaction I get after finishing my install is seeing kids smile and enjoying themselves,” says Kurt Turner, head installer for Exergame Fitness for the last 8 years. “This was a great grand opening and just another example of what we do.”
The exergame room in their facility only included three products, demonstrating that even the smallest of spaces can be converted into an energetic and fun part of your facility and have a HUGE impact on many lives. Even though they could only have 3 interactive solutions, they chose well by selecting some of the most popular and versatile pieces offered by Exergame Fitness. These included the T-Wall 32, the 3 Kick reaction trainer and the very popular iDance 2 wireless system.
One of the best things about these products and a small room solution is versatility. “We not only use it in our Kids Club (child care for 5-11 year olds) but our trainers also integrate it into some of our youth fitness classes. We are now planning to expand its use during the day (when children are in school) to incorporating it into some of our group ex classes for seniors,” says Executive Director Lisa Johnson. She continues: “We LOVE the Exergame equipment. We know it is helping us sell memberships…The children love it and they are always tired (in a really good way) after using it.”
Exergame Fitness is proud to be partners with the Eastlake YMCA and hope many others will continue to join us as we fix fitness for the next generation for years to come.
