Mobile exergaming products, which combine exercise with video games, can be an excellent way to get kids at Boys and Girls Clubs more active. Exergame had the opportunity over the last few years to work directly with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater High Point and install some of our mobile exergaming options.
While we now have been able to help them open their first brick and mortar club, we wanted to hear from their President Floyd Johnson on how they have used some of their mobile Exergaming options in the past.
Here’s how they can be beneficial:
1. Increased Engagement
- Fun and Interactive: Exergaming makes physical activity more enjoyable by incorporating elements of play and competition. Kids are more likely to engage in exercise if it’s presented as a fun game rather than a traditional workout.
- Variety of Games: With a range of games available, children can choose activities that interest them, whether it’s dancing, sports simulations, or adventure games.
2. Accessibility
- Portable: Mobile exergaming products can be easily set up in different areas of the club, allowing for flexibility in where and when kids can play.
- Cost-Effective: Many mobile exergaming apps are free or low-cost, making them accessible to Boys and Girls Clubs with limited budgets.
3. Encourages Social Interaction
- Multiplayer Options: Many exergames have multiplayer modes, encouraging kids to play and exercise together. This promotes teamwork and social interaction.
- Group Activities: Clubs can organize group exergaming sessions or tournaments, fostering a sense of community and friendly competition.
