Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) is located in the Charlotte, North Carolina region and provides academic instruction, rigor and support each school day to more than 148,299 students in kindergarten through 12th grade in 175 schools throughout the cities and towns of Mecklenburg County. CMS believes setting high standards for all students creates a greater opportunity for future success – in our communities, within the region and across our diverse and global society. Each day, CMS students are prepared to be leaders in a technologically savvy and globally competitive world.
As part of this tech savvy wave, they wanted to add something that could help benefit their students with a brand new Sensory Room! As part of this interdisciplinary approach they have recently added an interactive fitness gaming product called the tWall 16. The tWall 16 tests your personal limits resulting in the ultimate fitness gaming platform for any challenge. The TWall 16 is perfect for younger kids or facilities with less space. This piece can be used in physical fitness, education, or behavior management settings.
Included in this room is a sensory space. A sensory room is a therapeutic space with a variety of equipment that provides students with special needs with personalized sensory input. Sensory rooms help these children stay calm and focused, so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.
Here is a recent video with the tWall and benefits for students with sensory needs.
With the tWall students on the autism spectrum, those with ADD, ADHD, and Behavior issues can use it to refocus. Students with other sensory needs, cognitive tasks, or downs syndrome find a fun interactive game that keeps them active.
