The goal of the Northern Will County Special Recreation Association is to provide meaningful recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities that enhance their overall quality of life. Recently at the Annerino Community Center in Bolingbrook, IL; they were able to add the tWall, which specifically helps with sensory processing needs, and so much more!
Exergaming, which refers to video games that require physical activity, can be a useful tool for individuals with sensory processing needs. Sensory processing refers to the way in which the nervous system receives, organizes, and responds to sensory information from the environment.
Research has shown that exergaming can provide sensory input that can help individuals regulate their sensory systems. When playing exergames, individuals engage in activities that involve proprioceptive, vestibular, and tactile sensory input, which can help them develop better body awareness and coordination.
Exergaming and the tWall can also provide a fun and engaging way to incorporate sensory input into daily activities. For example, games that involve jumping, balancing, or catching can provide vestibular and proprioceptive input, while games that involve touchscreens or motion controllers can provide tactile input.
Additionally, exergaming and the tWall can be a form of exercise, which can provide benefits for individuals with sensory processing needs. Regular exercise has been shown to improve sensory processing, reduce anxiety and stress, and improve overall physical and mental health.
Overall, the tWall can be a helpful tool for individuals with sensory processing needs, providing them with enjoyable activities that can help regulate their sensory systems and improve their overall well-being.
