Exergaming can serve as a strategic tool to boost family memberships at the YMCA by creating an engaging, family-friendly environment that aligns with health and wellness goals for all age groups.
Recently Exergame had the amazing opportunity to work with the YMCA Spears, of the YMCA Greensboro Association. This facility in particular wanted to find a way to use a space that wasn’t seeing the traffic they wanted, while also catering to a unique group of teens and youth through family membership opportunities. Here’s how it can contribute to increased membership:
1. Appealing to Families with Children
Exergaming offers an innovative way to make fitness fun for children, which can motivate families to join the YMCA. Parents often seek activities that engage their children physically, mentally, and socially, and exergaming provides an appealing option. By offering a variety of exergaming stations or classes, the YMCA can attract families looking for diverse and entertaining fitness options for their kids.
2. Encouraging Family Participation
Exergaming is inclusive, allowing people of all ages and fitness levels to participate together. This can be a unique selling point for family memberships, as it enables parents and children to enjoy fitness activities side by side. Special family-focused exergaming events or competitions can create memorable bonding experiences, encouraging families to return regularly and build a sense of community.
3. Combining Fitness with Technology
Many families, especially those with teenagers, are drawn to technology-driven experiences. By incorporating exergaming, the YMCA can modernize its offerings, keeping up with trends in fitness and entertainment. This can attract tech-savvy families who might not be drawn to traditional forms of exercise, but are excited about blending gaming and fitness.
4. Offering a Unique Value Proposition
Exergaming can differentiate the YMCA from other fitness centers in the area. Highlighting a program that combines physical activity with the fun of gaming can make the YMCA a more attractive option for families weighing their membership options. Promotions that showcase exergaming as a part of family membership packages can help communicate this unique value proposition.
